Whoops, We Accidentally Did Something That Three Other Ad Companies Also Did

Google was either unaware or is just playing ‘dumb’ about their little privacy scandal.  interactioned: Google is pushing back against the Wall Street Journal story and Jonathan Mayer’s investigation into how Google was also circumventing the default cookie-blocking behavior in desktop Safari. Here’s what Google is saying: However, the Safari browser contained functionality that then enabled other Google advertising cookies to be set on the browser. We didn’t anticipate that this would happen, and we have now started removing these advertising cookies from Safari browsers. Google is spinning this pretty hard, because it makes them look bad. They were trying to make Google+ better, users wanted it, yada yada yada. What makes it looks worse is the companies that were also found to be doing the same thing. Jon Brodkin in Ars Technica: Three additional advertising companies—Vibrant Media, Media Innovation Group, and PointRoll—were accused of doing the same thing. Tell me what company you keep and I’ll tell you what you are.
